Tribal Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Camp The Tribal Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Camp took place July 5-12 in Georgetown. A total of five campers attended the inaugural camp Tyler Samuelson, Todd Fredericks, Renee Wilmarth, Rebecca Wilmarth and Jacob Wise of the Napaimute Tribe. The camp included a construction demonstration, field trips to Donlin Creek, Napaimute, and the George River weir and instruction in scholarship application and watershed and water quality issues. For the construction portion of the camp the Campers endured 85 degree weather and viscous mosquitoes to complete two out houses near the site of the future community center. Next the campers were given a tour of the Donlin Creek facility and the village of Napaimute where they learned of some of the educational, economic development and employment opportunities in the region. The next few days focused on environmental issues and the campers were instructed on fish biology and the health of our water ways. The last day also included a scholarship workshop presented by Michael Fredericks. In their off time the kids spent their time fishing, water skiing, tubing and visiting with friends and family. The camp was an overall success, but with this being the first camp many things were learned and will aid in the implementation of next years’ camp and help to make it an even more enjoyable experience.
