General Job Description
The Tribal Liaison serves as a primary connection between the Native Village of Georgetown (NVG), its members, Tribal Council, and programs. Approximately 50% of the position is dedicated to Tribal member outreach and engagement, with a focus on strengthening communication, increasing member participation, identifying member needs, and ensuring that Tribal member outreach remains at the forefront of NVG’s programs and activities. The Tribal Liaison will work across NVG departments to identify opportunities for member engagement, communicate available programs and resources, and gather feedback that can help shape Tribal priorities and services.The remaining portion of the position will provide administrative and program support to NVG departments, which may include Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Tribal Member Outreach and Engagement (50%)
Serve as a primary point of contact for Tribal members, responding to questions and concerns and connecting members with NVG programs, services, resources, and opportunities.
Build and maintain relationships with Tribal members, including Elders, youth, and members living throughout Alaska and elsewhere.
Conduct regular outreach to identify member needs, interests, and priorities and gather feedback to share with NVG staff and Tribal Council.
Work across NVG departments to keep Tribal member outreach and engagement at the forefront of program planning and implementation.
Promote opportunities for members to participate in NVG programs, employment, training, internships, meetings, elections, events, and other Tribal activities.
Conduct outreach before and after Tribal Council meetings to keep members informed and provide opportunities for input.
Prepare and distribute the monthly Tribal newsletter and develop notices, announcements, mailings, and other member communications.
Coordinate with NVG departments to gather and communicate information about programs, deadlines, events, and opportunities relevant to Tribal members.
Assist with developing and implementing NVG’s Tribal Communication Plan and developing strategies to strengthen member communication and participation.
Assist with member recognition and relationship-building activities, including birthday cards and other communications.
Maintain Tribal member contact information
Maintain records of outreach and engagement activities. Planning and Program Support.
Administrative and Department Support (50%)
Provide administrative and program support to Administration, IGAP, Brownfields, Library and other programs.
Assist with correspondence, scheduling, recordkeeping, document preparation, data entry, research, mailings, purchasing, and maintaining files.
Assist with preparations for Tribal Council meetings, the Annual Meeting, and other Tribal events.
Assist departments with program communications, outreach, scheduling, purchasing, recordkeeping, and other activities.
Assist with special projects as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality of Tribal member, personnel, and other sensitive information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and an interest in working directly with Tribal members.
Ability to build positive, respectful relationships with people of different ages and backgrounds.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with Tribal members, Council members, staff, partner organizations, and the public.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and follow through on assignments.
Ability to take initiative and identify opportunities for outreach and engagement rather than relying solely on assigned tasks.
Basic proficiency with computers, email, Microsoft Office, and web-based applications.
Ability and willingness to learn about multiple NVG programs and communicate program information to Tribal members.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working for or with a Tribal government, Alaska Native organization, nonprofit organization, or rural Alaska community.
Familiarity with the Middle Kuskokwim region and its communities.
Experience with community outreach, member engagement, communications, customer service, or public engagement.
Experience preparing newsletters, outreach materials, website content, or social media posts.
Experience providing administrative or program support.
Familiarity with Tribal government programs and services.
Experience working across multiple programs or departments.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position is primarily office-based but includes Tribal member outreach, meetings, events, and occasional travel. The employee must be able to use standard office equipment and perform routine computer-based work.
The position may occasionally require carrying supplies, assisting with setup and cleanup for meetings or events, running work-related errands, or participating in other program activities. Travel within Alaska may be required and may include travel to rural communities by small aircraft or other forms of transportation.
