Position Title:
 Victim Advocate
Reports To: OVC Program Director
Schedule: Part-time or full-time (up to 40 hours per week)
Compensation: $29–$31 per hour DOE
Location: In-person in Anchorage or remote within the Anchorage/Mat-Su area

Employment Term:
This is a grant-funded position funded at 40 hours per week for an initial one-year period. Continued employment is dependent on funding availability and program needs.

Position Summary

The Victim Advocate provides confidential, compassionate, and culturally responsive support to victims and survivors of crime and their families, helping them navigate services, courts, child welfare, and other systems.

This is a unique opportunity to help build a new Tribal victim services program from the ground up. Because NVG members live throughout Alaska, the Advocate will work with clients and service providers across the state, both remotely and in person.

The position will work closely with NVG's current Victim Advocate to provide direct services, manage cases, and help develop the systems, partnerships, and resources for the new program. The position may also assist with ICWA and child welfare cases involving Tribal children and families.

Primary Duties

  • Help build NVG's new victim services program, including policies, procedures, case management and referral systems, resources, and community partnerships.

  • Provide confidential, survivor-centered advocacy, support, and case management to victims and survivors of crime.

  • Maintain regular client contact, follow-up, case documentation, and confidential case files.

  • Attend court hearings, case meetings, and other proceedings as needed to support clients.

  • Work closely with the current Victim Advocate to manage active cases and ensure continuity of services.

  • Assist with ICWA and child welfare advocacy involving Tribal children and families.

  • Assist with community outreach, education, and prevention activities.

  • Participate in required training, including victim advocacy, ICWA, and trauma-informed care.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with victims, children, families, social services, Tribal communities, or a related field preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and accurate records.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases and priorities, and work collaboratively with others.

  • Cultural awareness and respect for Tribal values and communities.

  • Willingness to complete required training and learn victim advocacy, ICWA, child welfare, and related systems.

  • Ability and interest in helping build a new program, including developing systems, resources, and community partnerships.

Additional Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a required background check.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position is primarily office- or remote-based and includes Tribal member outreach, meetings, court proceedings, community events, and occasional travel. The employee must be able to perform routine computer-based and administrative work.

Occasional travel within Alaska may be required, including travel to rural communities by small aircraft or other forms of transportation.
